His childhood was bounded by the mountains that isolated Plymouth Notch and by the stern precepts of his pioneer ancestors - thrift, honesty, and self-reliance. Surrounded by a close-knit circle of family and neighbors, the boy grew up learning to be a responsible member of the small farming community.
This book is illustrated with more than eighty vintage photographs of Calvin Coolidge's boyhood and of the years when he returned to make Plymouth Notch the site of the 1924 summer White House.
